Yesterday the QE2 visited Hobart for the last time as part of its farewell cruise and is destined to become a floating hotel, casino, restaurant and conference centre in Dubai. During its life it is estimated to have carried 2.5 million passengers and sailed almost 5.6 million nautical miles which exceeds any other ship in history. Interestingly it also holds the record for the fasted ocean liner capable of 32.5 knots or 60 km/h

Its visit yesterday marked the eighth time that the vessel has come to Hobart since its original visit in 1978

Of course i have more photos

On a side note some time back i was asked how big the Derwent Estuary was. The QE2 is in the middle of the picture …

  2. Greg, we loved these – unfortunately we missed her sailing, but this made up for it. We saw the QEII last time she was here – what a majestic lady! Brilliant shots!

  4. Hi Eileen, it was a great sight. Had i known both the cartella and another ferry (used to be derwent explorer but name eludes me at present) plus spectator craft it was quite a carnival. Both at Camelot Park and Kingston Beach where these pictures were taken there were people turned out to see her leave.

  6. Some great shots there. I saw the ship beautifully framed under the bridge from Lindisfarne, I wish that I had my camera!
