(c)hobartdaily.com - The McPartlan Pass Canal

Staying in the South West for Today’s picture is the McPartlan Pass Canal. As I mentioned previously Lake Pedder provides 44% of the water for the Gordon Power Station and this canal is the only link between the two lakes.

Interestingly enough, when Lake Gordon was flooded, the waters flooded into to small dams surrounding the deserted mining town of Adamsfield and Redfin Perch, an introduced fish species that is an aggresive species. It was necessary to ensure that it could not escape the new lake and the flow of the water through the canal is kept at a speed making it difficult for the Redfin Perch to swim against the current and into Lake Pedder.
