Behind Bars

I took a drive out to the Dogs Home in Hobart today as i wanted a look and in the front yard there was theseĀ two guys aged around 4 months picked up from the side of the road chewing on a dead wombat a month ago. Charming i know but a dog has to do what a dog has to do and its a dog eat wombat kind of world out there!
I always find it kind of sad at the dogs home, especially seeing older dogs who have been in homes and then left at the home with their world turned upside down. But the good thing about the dogs home is they have a home for as long as it takes for an adoption, a fresh blanket every day and regular walking. In winter they also heat the concrete in their enclosures is heated. But they still need a proper home.
If not for the fact that i have a dog then i would have loved to have taken both home with me right then and there. But i pick up the shorter dog on the left on Saturday.

They’re so cute. I love them both.
Nice capture. The short one is looking eagerly at you.

Oh dear, I hate seeing dogs in need of a home. This sounds a good refuge tho. And you are right, it’s the old dogs who are ignored and I feel so sad for that. I wish more people would adopt old dogs – they give so much love back, it’s unbelievable. My last three refuge dogs have been old – and I’d not have changed it for the world. Actually I took them cos I thought I’d not have time to get fond of them and then it would upset me so much! Huh! Dogs just get under your skin don’t they? Nice post and photograph.
I would think that wombat wouldn’t taste very nice.
I would struggle to leave the dog home without 3 dogs tucked under each arm.
Anu – me too. Delightful puppies full of life
Jilly – i love having dogs around. they are just so honest and kind
Kris – i doubt it would taste good. I am much the same so leaving with just one to pick up later is a big achievement for me !
