The Model Prison

Looking down the main corridor of the Model Prison at Port Arthur
Updated: When the model prison was built there were new ideas about how to reform criminals and it was thought that physical punishment only hardened the prisoners. On the otherhand in a quiet ordered atmosphere they could contemplate their sins and change their lives. With this in mind a new kind of prison was designed to deliver the system known as the model or Seperate Prison. In was thought with breaking down the prisoners individually, religion and ordered work they could be reformed.
Through the Gap

One of the great things about Hobart is that you are never far from seeing the water even if it is just through the gap in two buildings
Looking Back a Year

A year after the fire at Hobart’s Myer Store its still in the news as debate and uncertainty reigns about what and even whether the Hobart Myer will be rebuilt. I thought i would look back over the events as i posted them this time last year from the night of the fire to the day after with just the shell remaining to when the demolition started after the shell was deemed unsafe to stay standing although the front door was left for a while.
Base of Bridge

The base of the Tasman Bridge. I didn’t really manage to capture the day that i intended. Here in Hobart it is the start of Spring which means many things including gusty winds blowing today from the North West and stiring up whitecaps on the river and blowing the trees around.
