A Day at the Races

Today was Melbourne Cup Day and for us Aussies it really is the race that stops the nation. Around the country people down work and pick up a drink or three. The Totes and betting shops are filled with people wanting to lay a bet and if they are like me, no idea how to. All part of the day!
The photo above is the only photo i could find in any of my photos of Horse Racing and is of the Hobart Cup from 2006. At the Elwick race course the Gallop track is around the outside and inside that is the pacing and greyhounds

Oh I love spending time at the race track! When I was a kid, growing up in San Diego, we’d cross the border to Tijuana and go to Caliente (I was actually able to bet there!) and as I got older, we would go to Del Mar.
Recently we took a trip to Louisville, KY and went to Churchill Downs. They give a nice tour of the track and you get up close to the horses. Also had a yummy mint julep while watching the races!
Tanya – i have only been once (when i took this photo). I will have to go again one day soon!
