The Steve Irwin returned to Hobart on Friday fresh from the Southern Ocean where it has been protesting and trying to obstruct the Japanese whaling fleet and their whaling for “research” purposes.

The arrival was not without incident with Federal Police meeting it with a search warrant and confiscated the ship’s log book and video footage.

The footage seized dipicted the slaughter of a whale, first shot with an explosive harpoon and then pulled alongside the Japanese ship where it was shot 7 times in 20 minutes with a shotgun. It was this footage that caused the ship to return to port early when information was received a Japanese Security vessel had been deployed with commandos to intercept the sea shepherd and seize the footage

A bonus shot today showing the damage to the Steve Irwin from a collision with a Japanese Whaler.

  4. Truly fascinating. I wonder if the Japanese ship was actually trying to sink the Steve Irwin?

  6. They are all about the attention I guess, whatever it takes seems to be the motto.

  8. I am not sure but it does seem a bit that way although getting your ship sunk in the great southern ocean is probably not a great idea so perhaps it was just an accident!
