Toll House

When founded New Norfolk was dependent mostly on river transport with supplies coming up from Hobart by barges and produce heading down river to Hobart. For the population rowboats and punts were used to cross the river. As development took place the government placed a ferry for operation for the town.
The first bridge across the Derwent River at New Norfolk was officially opened in January 1842 operating by private enterprise on the basis that all vehicles using it would have to pay a toil. Pictured is the original tollhouse standing on its original site.

Duck Dog Trials

Today’s shot is another from the New Norfolk Autumn Festival and features something a little different. These dogs were as part of a display busy rounding up three ducks. One day soon i will show you what the ducks arrived in.
Spoons Ten Dollars

Today i spent some time at New Norfolk at their Autumn Festival and wandered the festival. It was an unsual mix of everything from country music to sheep dog trials to Buddists dancing. I also got the chance to wander the festival with a couple of friends from Twitter and it was great to catch up.
One of my friends Amy also has her own brand new photoblog Mobile Phone Photography. Go check out Amy’s photoblog, she has an interesting perspective on the world around her. Check it out.
