I was at Sandy Bay Saturday where i photographed people swimming and it seemed strange to see people playing Soccer which i always think of as a winter sport on the sports ground behind. Sitting in the car i was lucky enough to then get the man and his dog come into view letting me take the shot you see now.

Today’s photo is of Bellerive Oval where Australia are taking on South Africa in a one day international cricket match. The crowd capacity is set today for around 16,000 although its a bit too crowded for my tastes. And worse … they don’t sell full strength beer at the international matches !!!!

I deliberately wanted to show what a beautiful location it is set in with a park and beach between the ground and the river. The city of Hobart is across the river and to the right.

In the summer months Kingston Beach is popular with beach volleyball teams.

Skandia off Wrest Point casino as it sails to the finish line to come second in the Sydney Hobart yacht Race

This morning Wild Oats XI won the Sydney Hobart Yacht race for its fourth time in a row. Second place Skandia was visible and finished an hour and seven minutes later which would have been disappointing as at one time yesterday Skandia was leading the race until becoming becalmed. Wild Oats XI on the other hand had to stop after one of its rudders became tangled with a 2 metre shark!

This is my contribution to the monthly Daily Photo Blog. I had it all planned for weeks and went out to take the photo sunday, only to discover that what i was thinking as a topic wasn’t actually what i thought it was. So i fell back on my own version of a sphere, an Aussie Rules Football going through the goal at North Hobart Football Ground.

I thought that with the first test starting in Brisbane I would dig into the archives and pull out a shot of the cricket. This is from exactly a year ago to the day with India playing Australia.

I pondered over a number of days what to post for today, the Australian Rules Football Grand Final until i happened on this shot. Perfect. The meat pie is something that you are likely to have at any major sporting event whether it is cricket or football!

Its described as Australia’s game, Australian Rules Football (or Aussie Rules) which is played at different levels around the country. Today i took the chance to watch the Reserves Grand Final between OHA and St Virgils with OHA winning 13 9 87 to St Virgils 10 5 65 at North Hobart.

A couple of weeks ago i was driving by and noticed cricket being played. This is the old TCA ground on the domain and the last time i was there Clive Lloyd was captaining the West Indies in a One Day international so its been a long while!
